How information is used

What is collected

A divorce application collects the names and email addresses of both spouses, the mediators and two witnesses, the dates and places of the marriage and the separation, the details of the civil decree and the terms of the settlement, together with the documents uploaded in support. A conversion application collects the convert's name and any other name used, the date of birth, the email address, a description of the identity document with only the last four characters of its number, a copy of that document, the date and place of the conversion, and the names and email addresses of the two witnesses. Each signature is recorded with its time, the internet address it came from and the browser used.

Why each part is collected

The names, dates and settlement details are printed on the certificate. The spouses' and witnesses' email addresses carry their signing links, and the applicant's carries the private case link and updates. The mediators' names and relationships are printed on the certificate, and their email addresses let the reviewer confirm the mediation and send a signing link to a mediator who also signs as a witness. A request for a record type not yet open is used only to reply to it.

Identity checks

Every party confirms their identity through Stripe Identity. Stripe receives the identity document and photo and returns the result to the Bureau.

Who sees it

The reviewers of the Islamic Records Bureau read the application in order to confirm each fact. The applicant sees the case through the private link, and each signer sees the certificate through a separate link. The information is not sold or shared for marketing.

What the public register shows

For an issued certificate the register shows its number, the type of dissolution, the date and court of the civil decree, the Effective Date, the waiting period, the reviewer who confirmed the facts, the date of issue and the fingerprint of the file. For a conversion certificate it shows the date of conversion, the reviewer and the date of issue. It never shows the names of the parties or the witnesses.

Private links

Case and signing links contain a long random code, and anyone who has a link can open that page, so links should be kept private. Search engines are told not to index pages opened through these links.

Cookies and page counts

The public pages set no cookies. How the site uses its one sign-in cookie, browser storage and cookieless page counts is set out in the cookie notice.

Records

Every action on a case is logged with the person who took it and the time. An issued certificate remains in the register so that it can be checked in the future.
