The service

The Islamic Records Bureau reviews applications for records of Islamic personal status, confirms each stated fact against the documents supplied and, where the parties and two witnesses sign, issues a certificate and enters it in a public register. A certificate is a religious record. It has no civil legal effect, it is not a court judgment, and the Bureau does not rule on disputed cases.

What the applicant undertakes

The applicant confirms that the answers and documents given are true and complete, that the other parties named have agreed to take part, and that the applicant may share the personal information of the other parties, the mediators and the witnesses for the purpose of the application. The Bureau may ask questions, request further documents, interview the parties, and decline or stop a case that it cannot confirm.

Signatures and issue

A certificate is issued only after every named signer has read it and signed it through their own link. If a signer declines, the case stops until the reviewer reopens it. An issued certificate stays in the register so that it can be checked in the future.
